Christopher Mackie, who played a key role in transforming McGuireWoods’ information technology into an enterprise-class asset, has been appointed the firm’s chief information officer.

He managed a team of 70 professionals and oversaw the firm’s IT budget to ensure technology initiatives advanced the firm’s business priorities and supported innovation, efficiency, and client service. He also collaborated with the firm’s AI and innovation team on integrating emerging technologies, led a data governance initiative that reduced high-risk file exposures, and helped scale the firm’s remote work capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his new role, Mackie has firmwide responsibility for information systems, including legal, operational, client management, administrative, financial, marketing and human resources. He succeeds Gregg Sutfin, who served as McGuireWoods’ chief information officer since 2011 and remains with the firm as a senior advisor.

“Chris has been instrumental in modernising our technology infrastructure and aligning IT strategy with the firm’s business goals,” said Jeffrey Conner, McGuireWoods’ chief operating officer. “His leadership, deep technical knowledge and client-focused approach make him the ideal choice to manage our information systems into the future and ensure we continue to deliver exceptional service with agility and security.”

Mackie added: “I am honored to step into this role and lead an outstanding team of IT professionals. I look forward to working with the firm’s senior leadership to ensure we provide innovative, secure solutions that empower lawyers and business professionals to deliver the best service to clients.”
