Wordsmith has announced its expansion into the United States, aiming to help enterprises bring more routine legal work in-house as legal costs continue to rise and AI reshapes corporate legal operations.
Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Edinburgh, Wordsmith develops an AI platform designed for in-house legal teams, embedding legal guidance directly into tools such as Microsoft 365 and Slack. The company said the platform allows employees to review contracts, answer legal questions and escalate complex matters to lawyers with context, reducing reliance on outside counsel.
Ross McNairn, Founder and CEO of Wordsmith, said the shift reflects a broader change in how companies manage legal work internally. Enterprise legal teams at companies including BT, Canva, Coursera, Safelite, Miro, Deliveroo and Trustpilot already use the platform.
Wordsmith said it expects the US market to account for more than 50% of its revenue by the end of 2026 as demand grows for tools that enable corporate legal departments to handle more work internally.
