LegalTech Diaries Volume 18

Antoine Fabre

CEO
Tomorro

You’ve built Tomorro around collaboration between legal and operational teams, not just legal alone. Why was that the right wedge, rather than building a tool for lawyers first?

At Tomorro, we often say that we’re not a solution designed by legal professionals for legal professionals, but rather a solution intended for all contractors within a single company, and that’s a position we firmly stand by. My cofounders and I don’t come from a legal background, and the need to bring the legal closer to the business is what stood out from the hundreds of conversations we had when we started, with legal counsels, salespeople, HR professionals, and buyers. We felt a collective dissatisfaction.

In an AI world, we believe this perspective is even more true. With everyone empowered to achieve more with Agents, it becomes critical to bring collaboration to the next level, making teams, people and Agents collaboration reliable and fast.

With €25 million raised to fund hiring across tech, product, sales and marketing, what’s the hardest role to hire well for in a company at your stage?

Certain roles are, of course, particularly difficult to fill because the “talent pools” are limited and the best candidates are in high demand on the market: this is the case for AI engineers and sales professionals, particularly in Germany. With the rise of AI, other areas of expertise are also becoming increasingly sought after, particularly in the field of security.

But at our size, the real challenge is finding the right combination of expertise and mindset. We’re looking for people with a true entrepreneurial spirit, who are highly agile and capable of anticipating future needs.

After a fundraising, there can be a strong temptation to prioritise speed in hiring. Our main challenge is to never lower our standards. That’s also why, in reality, no hiring process is easy.

AI is being layered into contract negotiation and execution across the CLM category. What’s a task you deliberately haven’t automated yet, and why?

From day one, our goal has been to support legal counsels so they can focus on tasks that truly require their expertise.

Our solution was developed alongside the evolution of AI and it therefore integrated naturally into Tomorro with Oro, our AI-native assistant. We were the first to make AI-powered contract review possible and during the last 2 years, we’ve made Oro so powerful and reliable that it became a product by itself massively adopted by companies that don’t need a CLM yet but that need to scale their contract operations..

We are convinced that an expertise and deep understanding of the company context, and even risk appetite cannot be assessed as effectively as by human intelligence, and that is precisely where the value of the legal professional comes in and what makes them irreplaceable.
